How To Identify and Control Bud Rot or Gray Mold (Botrytis cinerea) on Cannabis Plants

Bud Rot (Botrytis) Identification
Gray mold develops primarily in dense portions of the plant such as the flower buds and is favored by high humidity.
The gray moldy growth seen are masses of mycelia (fungal strands) and clusters of conidia (asexual spores that are produced in large numbers).
If it starts internally to the bud this can be a very unwelcomed surprise at the end of the season harvest.

Bud Rot (Botrytis) Life Cycle
Botrytis cinerea disease cycle in strawberry.
Sources of B. cinerea inoculum include infected leaves and sclerotia.
Primary infections of flowers and secondary infections of fruit are depicted.

Bud Rot (Botrytis) Management
High humidity (90%+) for 12hr.+ is very favorable for Botrytis development
Physical damage can also increase odds of Botrytis getting an initial start.
Remove all trimmings and pruned plant material
If identified in an area remove infected plant material and then apply a control product.
*Since this is commonly seen late in the growing season be aware of potential residuals and current local regulations.
Also, once identified you may want to harvest sooner rather than later to ensure you get some clean plant material.

Determining the strength of cannabis is not always straight forward, once you have have chosen which strain you would like to use, there are also a number of factors which will affect the THC content of the bud.

The main external factors influencing the strength of your bud are: Location (e.g. indoor vs outdoor), growing medium (e.g. soil or hydroponics), nutrient levels, light source, temperature & humidity and carbon dioxide levels.

Although there are many methods of growing cannabis, they all come with a different set of pros and cons ... for example, if you wanted to grow your plant under some of the UVB spectrum, you would either have to find a nice mountain close to the equator or purchase some UVB emitting LEDs. Both of these methods have problems; LED lights are rather expensive, and walking up a mountain to grow your bud will also leave you feeling pretty low on energy.

The Five Strongest THC Strains of Cannabis Plant for 2020

If you know your THCs from your CBDs you will recognize the importance of high levels of THC in strains of cannabis plant. THC is what gives you that ‘high’ than many cannabis users crave, as opposed to a more mellowing effect when the more dominant element is CBD, known also as cannabidiol.

If you are a fan on THC then the last thing you are going to want to do is grow CBD-rich cannabis plants, so what should you keep an eye out for in 2020 if you want a high concentration of THC in your cannabis? The following is a list of five of the most popular THC plants commonly grown.

At Number 5 there is Girl Scout Cookies, which is probably one of the best strains of Californian marijuana plants available. We also like these seeds as they are feminized, and plants should be ready to harvest within eight to nine weeks of germination. You can expect a THC concentration of between 25 and 28 per cent.

At Number four there is Wedding Cake, which is at a keen price for such a THC-rich strain. This plant will give you a great sativa high, and you will find that a little goes a very long way!

At number three Cali Glue Auto joins the list with a more-than-healthy THC level around 23 per cent. We also like this as it flowers within 60-70 days and can cope with wide temperature fluctuations.

It was a close call, but at number two we have Bruce Banner. With origins from Colorado, it was registered at the US Cannabis Cup with a THC level of 28 per cent, which was the highest at the time.

Pride of place and storming in at Number 1 comes HulkBerry, the alter ego of the Incredible Hulk. With a THC level of 27 per cent and slightly lower than Bruce Banner, this took the coveted crown because of its fruit berry and hint of citrus aromas, that makes it that little bit extra-special.
