Yaphet Kotto - The First Black Actor to Kill A White Cop On Film (1970) #YaphetKottoDay
The late Yaphet Kotto left us many memorable characters, making history as the first Black Bond villain. (Live and Let Die)and as a Black hero in outer space (Alien). We at Reelblack choose to focus on a lesser known role, that of Sony Boy Mosby, who avenges the lynching of LB Jones (Roscoe Lee Brown) in the climax of The Liberation of L.B. Jones. Released in 1970, this role is important because it represents the very first time in cinema that a Black Man killed a white person on film and suffered no retribution. Our intention is not to promote real-life violence in any way but to share information that has historical or cultural significance. The entire film can currently be viewed on Amazon Prime and is available on DVD.
